I’m traveling to the U.S. from another country for my cruise. What testing requirements should I expect? Will I need a test to get into the country, board the ship or get home?

Svar

All international travelers age 2 and older who are flying into the U.S. are required by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) to obtain a negative viral COVID-19 test result for a test taken no more than 1 day before traveling. This requirement is separate from the Royal Caribbean testing requirement to board the ship. For full details on the U.S. testing requirement, please visit the U.S. CDC site.

Timing Your Entry Test

In some cases, you may be able to use your test result for entry into the U.S. to also satisfy the boarding requirement, depending on when you traveled into the country ahead of your cruise.

Here are some recommendations for efficiently scheduling your testing to meet the requirements of both the U.S. CDC and Royal Caribbean.

For Fully Vaccinated Guests

Day 1 — Take an antigen test in your home country and secure your results before your flight to the U.S. departs.
Day 2 — Fly into the U.S.
Day 3 — Board your cruise using the same test result you used for entry into the U.S.

Note: Vaccinated guests require a negative COVID-19 test result taken no more than 2 days before boarding. If you have any additional days between your test and Boarding Day, you will need to secure a second test in the U.S. prior to boarding.

For Families with Unvaccinated Kids Age 2 to 11

Day 1 — Unvaccinated kids should take an antigen test AND a PCR test in their home country. Antigen results are typically delivered sooner and can be used to satisfy the U.S. CDC entry requirement. The PCR test result, which may take longer, is required to satisfy the Royal Caribbean testing requirement to board the ship on Boarding Day. You should make sure to secure at least the antigen test results for all members of your party before flying.
Day 2 — Fly into the U.S.
Day 3 — Board your cruise. Adults can use the same test result you used for entry into the U.S. while kids use the PCR test result.
Day 4 — Kids may still board on this day using their PCR test result. Vaccinated guests would need to secure a second test in the U.S. prior to boarding, as the two-day timeframe on their original test will have expired.

International Re-Entry Testing Options for Cruises from U.S. Homeports

Many international travelers will require a negative COVID-19 test result for re-entry into their country of residence. Please see below for options available to you on your sailing.

Be sure to familiarize yourself with your country’s specific requirements prior to scheduling your re-entry test.

For Sailings Departing January 5, 2022 through January 31, 2022

Optional testing to satisfy your International Re-Entry Testing requirement is offered just outside the terminal after you disembark the ship, through our test provider partners. The cost of this testing is covered by Royal Caribbean for sailings departing through January 31, 2022. Both PCR and antigen “swab and go” tests are offered, with results emailed to you within an hour after testing. Once onboard, you will receive further guidance on how to schedule a test appointment.

For Sailings Departing On or After February 1, 2022

Optional testing to satisfy your International Re-Entry Testing requirement is offered just outside the terminal after you disembark the ship, through our test provider partners. The cost of testing is the responsibility of the guest, and varies depending on the port, with antigen tests starting at $105 and PCR tests starting at $210. Either test is “swab and go,” and results will be emailed to you within an hour after testing. Once onboard, you will receive further guidance on how to schedule a test appointment.

  • You can also make your own arrangements with test providers at the airport, or in the area of the port, such as local pharmacies or clinics.

For Sailings from Barbados

All Royal Caribbean guests age 2 and older, regardless of vaccination status, will require a complimentary COVID-19 antigen test provided by Royal Caribbean’s test provider to re-enter Barbados. In most cases, this test could also satisfy re-entry requirements into guests’ home country. Be sure to familiarize yourself with your country’s specific requirements prior to traveling. More information on this test will be provided once onboard.
