Will I have to take a COVID-19 test before or during my cruise?

Testing requirements vary by port of departure and your age group. Below are the published requirements for select ports. We are continually adding, monitoring and adjusting information on testing requirements as public health standards and government regulations evolve. Booked guests will be advised of the latest requirements for their port of departure before sailing.

 

 

Required Testing for All Guests Sailing From U.S. Homeports

All Guests: Required Pre-Cruise Testing 

Before boarding day, you’ll need to take a COVID-19 test on your own, at your own expense.

  • Vaccinated guests age 12 and older must show a negative COVID-19 test result for a PCR or antigen test taken no more than 2 days before boarding day. 
  • Unvaccinated kids age 2 to 11 must show a negative test result for a PCR or antigen test taken no more than 3 days before boarding day. Kids’ pre-cruise test cannot be taken on boarding day, because that may affect the sample taken during the kids’ test at the terminal.
  • Guests under 2 years of age do not need to complete a pre-cruise test. 

Kids Age 2-11: Additional Complimentary Testing

In addition to the pre-cruise test, kids will take one or two more tests, depending on the length of the cruise. Royal Caribbean’s test provider will administer these, at no cost to our guests.

  • On boarding day, kids will take a complimentary rapid PCR test during check-in at the terminal. We’ll send registration details via email before departure.
  • For cruises that are 5 nights or longer, kids will take a complimentary antigen test onboard before the cruise ends. Vaccinated guests who require a COVID-19 test for re-entry into their country may receive one onboard as well. Guests will be notified onboard about how to register for this test.

Guests Under the Age of 2

Guests under the age of 2 have no testing requirements.

NOTE: Sailings longer than 10 nights may have additional onboard testing requirements

For Cruises Departing from Barcelona, Spain

Guest testing requirements for cruises departing from Barcelona, Spain vary depending on your age and vaccine status.

VACCINATED GUESTS:

  • On boarding day, guests will take a rapid antigen test during check-in at the terminal. We’ll send registration details via email before departure.
    • We will contact you via email approximately 14 to 18 days prior to sailing with instructions on how to register for the antigen test at the port.  This will expedite the testing process at the port. Please ensure that you have provided us with your email address so we can share this important information with you.
  • A final COVID-19 test is required before the end of the cruise. We’ll provide additional details onboard about these tests.

UNVACCINATED GUESTS:

  • Unvaccinated guests ages 12 to 17 years old, that are traveling from an area designated as high risk by Spain will need to arrange and take a COVID test at their own expense no more than 48 hours before arriving in Spain and present their negative result to airport health control staff.  This test is required by the Government of Spain to enter the country. 
  • On boarding day, guests will take a rapid antigen test during check-in at the terminal. We’ll send registration details via email before departure. 
  • A mid-cruise test will be required, for all unvaccinated guests aged between 6- 17 years, this test will also support the Green Pass requirements in Italy for any families wanting to debark on a shore excursion. We’ll provide additional details onboard about these tests.
  • A final COVID-19 test will be required before the end of the cruise. We’ll provide additional details onboard about these tests.

For Cruises Departing from Rome, Italy

Guest testing requirements for cruises departing from Rome, Italy vary depending on your age and vaccine status.

VACCINATED GUESTS:

  • On boarding day, guests will take a rapid antigen test during check-in at the terminal.
    • We will contact you via email approximately 14-18 days prior to sailing with instructions on how to register for the antigen test at the port. This will expedite the testing process at the port. Please ensure that you have provided us with your email address so we can share this important information with you.

UNVACCINATED GUESTS:

  • On boarding day, guests aged 2 years and above will take a rapid antigen test during check-in at the terminal. We’ll send registration details via email before departure.
  • A mid-cruise test will be required, for all unvaccinated guests aged between 2- 17 years. We’ll provide additional details onboard about these tests.
  • A final COVID-19 test will be required before the end of the cruise. We’ll provide additional details onboard about these tests.

ENTRY TO ITALY:

Entry rules to Italy vary depending on what country you are traveling from. Guests will be required to present proof of either vaccination, negative COVID_19 test result or recovery certificate depending on their country of origin. Guests from some countries may be required to isolate on their arrival into Italy, which may impact their travel plans. Guests impacted by this requirement should contact us on {telephone number} to discuss their options.

Requirements change frequently so please ensure you frequently review the Italian Government's online questionnaire prior to travel.

For Cruises Departing from Limassol, Cyprus

Guest testing requirements for cruises departing from Limassol, Cyprus vary depending on your age and vaccination status.

VACCINATED CYPRUS GUESTS:

  • Vaccinated guests who hold a valid vaccination certificate from the public authorities of the countries listed here, will be able to travel to the Republic of Cyprus without the need for a test to enter the country.
  • Random PCR test laboratory sampling may be carried out by the Ministry of Health in the Republic of Cyprus upon arrival at the airport.
  • On boarding day, guests will take a rapid antigen test during check-in at the terminal. We’ll send registration details via email before departure.
    • We will contact you via email approximately 14-18 days prior to sailing with instructions on how to register for the antigen test at the port.  This will expedite the testing process at the port.  Please ensure that you have provided us with your email address so we can share this important information with you.
  • All guests ages 2 years and above must take a complimentary SARS-CoV-2 test before disembarking the cruise. This result is required for re-entry into Cyprus and can also be used for re-entry into your home country if needed.  If needed a complimentary onboard RT-PCR test can also be arranged for anyone that should require it to re-enter their country of residence. 
  • A small number of guests may be selected at random by the Cyprus Health Authorities and asked to complete an additional RT-PCR test after disembarking the cruise. Impacted guests will be notified once onboard the cruise, there is no charge for the test.

UNVACCINATED CYPRUS GUESTS will need to meet additional requirements to enter the country and board the ship:

  • Before Boarding unvaccinated guests aged 12 to 17 years old, will need to arrange and take a PCR test at their own expense no more than 72 hours before arriving in Cyprus. This test is required by the Republic of Cyprus to enter the country.
  •  Depending on the country of residence categorization, guests may require additional testing on arrival at the airport in Cyprus at their own expense.  Please review your country’s entry requirements when traveling to Cyprus
  • On boarding day, guests ages 2 years and above will take a rapid antigen test during check-in at the terminal. We’ll send registration details via email before departure.
  • All guests ages 2 years and above must take a complimentary SARS-CoV-2 test before disembarking the cruise. This result is required for re-entry into Cyprus and can also be used for re-entry into your home country if needed.  If needed a complimentary onboard RT-PCR test can also be arranged for anyone that should require it to re-enter their country of residence.  
  • A small number of guests may be selected at random by the Cyprus Health Authorities and asked to complete an additional RT-PCR test after disembarking the cruise. Impacted guests will be notified once onboard the cruise, there is no charge for the test.
  • Unvaccinated guests that decide to extend their stay in Cyprus after the cruise or are residents of Cyprus may be required to take a test upon debark and in some instances may need to quarantine if the stay is longer than 3 nights, with a secondary PCR test at the end of quarantine. For Cruises Departing from Southampton, England

There are different testing requirements at different stages for cruises departing from England, and they vary depending on your age and vaccine status. Here’s a breakdown.

VACCINATED GUESTS FROM THE UK:

  • Vaccinated Guests must bring the negative result of a PCR test taken within 3 days of sailing. We will email instructions on how to register for your complimentary test approximately 14 to 18 days before your cruise.

UNVACCINATED GUESTS FROM THE UK :

  • Unvaccinated Guests, 2 to 17 years old, must bring the negative result of a PCR test taken within 3 days of sailing.  Guests must also take a complimentary rapid antigen test at the terminal and receive a negative result in order to sail.  We will email instructions on how to register for your complimentary tests approximately 14 to 18 days before your cruise.

ALL GUESTS ARRIVING FROM OVERSEAS

  • Everyone aged 11 years and above entering England from overseas (including UK nationals and residents) must provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test taken within 3 days prior to direct departure to England.  Additional tests and/or quarantine may be required depending on the country you have travelled from. Before departure check the list of red, amber and green countries, as the list can change regularly.  
  • All guests arriving from overseas, 2 years and above,  must bring the negative result of a PCR test taken within3 days of sailing.  Guests must also take a complimentary rapid antigen test at the terminal and receive a negative result in order to sail.  We will email instructions on how to register for your complimentary tests approximately 14 to 18 days before your cruise.
  • Guests may need to take a COVID_19 test to re-enter their country of residence. For your convenience, we will schedule complimentary re-entry testing at the end of the cruise if required. Additional details will be provided onboard

GUESTS UNDER THE AGE OF 2:

  • Guests under the age of 2 have no testing requirements.
